We see it at school every year, but more than that, most of us are mothers who have been there! \u00a0We want your preschool goodbye to be as smooth and heartwarming as possible for you and your sweet preschooler. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are some tips to make this day not only memorable, but meaningful!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h2><b>Familiarize Your Child to Their New Environment<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/preschool.utahdanceartists.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UDA Creative Arts Preschool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> invites you to bring your child to our open houses as well as our orientation. This allows your child time to become familiar in their new environment with our teachers and staff while having the security of a caregiver by their side. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><b>Read with Them<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every student receives a new book about our preschool and staff. \u00a0Take time to read it with your child and discuss some of the fun things they will be doing at preschool, making their experience with us predictable. <\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><b>Keep it Positive<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some children&#8217;s books may introduce ideas of sadness or anxiety that your child may not have considered otherwise. \u00a0In reading and conversations keep your discussions about preschool positive and exciting! <\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><b>Build the Excitement<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anticipating this special day can make it fun and special. \u00a0Make a paper chain or put smiley faces on a calendar to count-down the days. \u00a0Have older siblings or friends share stories of their first preschool. Pick out a favorite outfit they can wear their first day. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h2><b>Give Your Child a Concrete Time<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAdults may know how long a separation will last, but a young child has little or no understanding of this, and a few hours is a long time for a child.\u201d<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ncac.acecqa.gov.au\/educator-resources\/pcf-articles\/Positive_goodbyes_Dec09.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI\u2019ll be back <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ncac.acecqa.gov.au\/educator-resources\/pcf-articles\/Positive_goodbyes_Dec09.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">soon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d could be interpreted as a few minutes to your child. \u00a0\u201cI\u2019ll be back before lunch,\u201d gives your child a time frame they are familiar with.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<h2><strong>Create a Goodbye Ritual<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b style=\"font-size: 1rem;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dropping your child off through the carpool makes it a little tricky to give big hug goodbyes. \u00a0You can do the big hugs at home and then have a song or a special wave you do right before it\u2019s time to drop your child off. \u00a0The NAEYC also recommends a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/families.naeyc.org\/learning-and-development\/child-development\/12-ways-help-children-say-goodbye\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reunion ritual<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where you have your child tell you all about their preschool day. \u00a0Creating these rituals will create normalcy and fun your child.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h2><b>Eliminate Stress<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0Although getting the first-day-of-school-pictures <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the hearty breakfast <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the new book bag together all make for a memorable morning, it also adds stress! \u00a0Your child will sense your anxiety, even if it\u2019s more about being on time than being separated. \u00a0Have things prepared in advance and leave with plenty of time for a stress-free goodbye. Then eliminate stress for your child by being on-time to pick him up. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<h2><b>Tips for the Extra Anxious Child<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Each child is different and we recognize that some children will be rearing to start school and others&#8230;not so much. \u00a0If your child is one who really struggles with separation anxiety, here are a couple tips for you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allow your child a special stuffed animal or small blankie in their bag. \u00a0We will ask that they keep it in their cubby so it doesn\u2019t get lost, but knowing it is right there waiting for her every time she walks past can help. \u00a0Or something she can wear, like a watch, can stay with her.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stay consistent. \u00a0Even though some days may be difficult, be consistent in coming. \u00a0When it becomes a routine, your child will adjust better. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trust us!
